Executive Summary
Casey joined the Firm as an associate in 2011 and became a partner in 2015. Prior to that, she served as in-house counsel for a major Ontario municipality for five years—experience that gave her a strong understanding of the practical needs and challenges facing public sector employers.
Casey advises clients on all aspects of labour and employment law, working with both unionized and non-unionized workplaces. Casey’s practice spans both the public and private sector, though she has had a particular emphasis on broader public sector, proudly representing municipalities, school boards, hospitals, and other broader public organizations.
Her work spans a broad range of employment-related litigation, including wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, human rights complaints, and disputes involving non-compete and other restrictive covenants. She regularly appears before arbitrators, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and the Ontario Courts. She also provides ongoing strategic advice on a wide array of employment issues, including matters under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Casey frequently acts as lead spokesperson at the bargaining table, negotiating both initial and renewal collective agreements. She also advises on the development of collective agreement language and supports clients throughout the collective bargaining process, including behind-the-scenes guidance when needed.
A key part of Casey’s practice involves workplace investigations. She is regularly retained to conduct investigations and also trains clients on how to manage them effectively. A sought-after speaker, she shares her insights at HR conferences and seminars across Ontario, offering practical, experience-based guidance.
