Executive Summary
Jonathan Dye is a partner at Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP. Twice selected as one of the 500 leading lawyers of any kind in Canada by Lexpert and American Lawyer, Jonathan has also been recognized for many years by Best Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell and on the annual Lexpert lists.
Jonathan primarily litigates and advises on a wide range of employment issues, including wrongful dismissals, human rights, employment standards, recruitment and termination, employment contracts, and workplace matters arising from corporate transactions. He has appeared as lead counsel before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Superior Court of Justice and Divisional Court, as well as the Human Rights Tribunal, Labour Relations Board, and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
Jonathan served for several years on the executive of the Labour and Employment Law section of the Ontario Bar Association, including as Chair of the section in 2008-2010, and is a Fellow of the Centre for International Legal Studies, based in Salzburg, Austria.
Jonathan has contributed chapters on employment law to several publications, including The Ultimate Corporate Counsel Guide (CCH/Canadian Corporate Counsel Association), International Labor and Employment Law (American Bar Association), and Non-Compete Clauses: An International Guide (Ius Laboris). A frequent and engaging speaker, he has chaired and lectured at numerous conferences on employment law and workplace human rights, addressing both legal peers and business audiences.
Jonathan has served as a guest instructor at the Schulich School of Business (York University) and the School of Business Management at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson), and has taught employment law at Humber College as part of the CHRP designation program. He’s appeared on CTV to discuss workplace issues and has been quoted widely in The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business, The Financial Post, Canadian Business Magazine, and other national publications. He has also authored dozens of articles in legal journals and industry publications.
Prior to commencing his practice, Jonathan received various accolades for his academic accomplishments from the University of Windsor, including the CAW Labour Law Prize, the Bryan Memorial Bursary (MBA), the Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd. Award (MBA), the Harold G. Fox Bursary (Law), the Dean’s List and President’s Roll, and ranked among the top ten students in both the MBA and LLB programs.
