Overview
Data breaches and potential for ransomware have become greater threats in recent times, as most business information is stored electronically. Employers are required to obtain and retain private, sensitive data within their operations, including employee, customer, and other business information. Businesses that heavily rely on sensitive information are prime targets for cybercriminals and, if the information systems of these businesses are successfully infiltrated, disaster can befall the organization.
In this seminar, Lucas Mapplebeck and Clifton Yiu will share their incisive insights on the current privacy framework in Ontario and what employers should do to prevent and respond to potential data breaches and ransomware. Key topics of discussion will include:
- A brief overview of privacy and data breach legislation applicable to Ontario employers;
- Recent developments in Canadian privacy law;
- Data breach reporting requirements;
- Strategies for responding to data/privacy breaches; and
- Effective methods for avoiding data/privacy breaches.
